How do you know what you want to do with your life? The answer is as easy as it is difficult. You know because it’s all you think about when you let yourself dream about the future. I used to watch Walt Disney documentaries and found myself paying more attention to the narrator than what I was seeing on screen. I wanted to be that voice guy.
#32: Know How to End the Segment BEFORE Turning on the Microphone
The number one mistake new announcers make is winging it between songs with a story that appears to have no end. That’s because the new host doesn’t know how to end the segment before turning on the microphone. Instead of being focused and moving towards the end of the story or the punch line, the host is trying to figure out live on air how to end it. Chances are it will be one of the first lessons they learn when the PD sits down with the host for an air check.
